The Snapping Turtle is New York's Official State Reptile. Voted on in 2006. The snapping turtle can weigh up to 75 pounds in the wild and 86 in captivity. Their territory ranges from Canada down to Florida. When given the choice between fight or flight the snapping turtle will almost always distance themselves from human interaction. They typically spend the majority of their life underwater. Its only until turtle nesting when humans decide to prod and get too close where the bite happens. One interesting face about the Alligator Snapping turtle is it attracts fish using an oral lure.
